Bobcat (Lynx rufus)
Description: 2 1/2 to 3 feet long. 15 to 35 lbs. Short (~5 inch) tail black only at the tip. Slightly tufted ear tips. Color varies greatly. Grayish buff or reddish, spotted/streaked with black back becoming lighter on the sides. Whitish underparts with black spots and black bars on the front legs. Tail with black bars.
Occurrence: Common to uncommon
Habitat: Mixed and Hardwood forest.
Diet: Snowshow hare, Eastern Cottontail, Squirrels, Muskrat, Small Mammals, Birds and eggs, Carrion, Snakes, Fish, Crustaceans, Insects. Deer in winter.
Reproduction Breeds late February to March. Gestation around 62 days with young born late April to mid-May. Average litter size 2.5 to 3.9. Usually 1 litter per year. Females mature 9 to 12 months, Males in the second year.
Comments: In 2008, the Boston Globe reported that a juvenile Bobcat was photographed at the Middlesex Fells Reservation. Bobcats are rare inside Route 128 but are likely increasing their range.

Description:
Occurrence: Moose are not resident to Northeastern Massachusetts but occasional migrants are seen. In 2010 the Eagle Tribune newspaper reported a woman who photographed a bull moose in her backyard in Groveland.
